My name is Oskar Palm Helmersson and the cello has been my companion since 2005. I am classically trained and got my master’s degree from Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) where I studied cello performance with Martina Schucan and conducting with Marc Kissoczy. Before that, I obtained my bachelor’s degree in 2018 at Malmö Music Academy where I studied with Samuli Örnströmer. Additionally, I have received coaching by Prof. Mathias Johansen and Mats Rondin for my cello playing and by Jean-Sélim Abdelmoula for composition.

While classical music is my point of departure, curiosity has guided me through many different genres and styles, something that I continuously draw inspiration from, both in my composing and my playing.

Music has lead me to perform in Austria, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland. I play in many different settings; as a soloist and in the orchestra, in classical music as well as pop or jazz, on stage, in the background or as a studio musician. I perform on weddings, parties, dinners, art exhibitions, baptisms, funerals and other occasions. I enjoy creating different moods and conveying emotions with all their nuances, be it with a cello suite by Bach, a folk song or a jazz improvisation.
